Scott, that does not appear to be Leif Erickson’s autograph, although the first name appears to slightly resemble what his first name typically looks like. It is still atypical.  Did he sign by another name for some reason?

  1. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your time and effort. It was just that the first name was so close to the way that he signed that I started grasping at straws with the last name. I had just seen 3-4  signatures of his and that first name is just almost spot on to what I have. But then you get to the last name and it just doesn't hold water.out of the 60 signatures that I started off with, I only have this one and about 3-4 others that I havent been able to figure out yet. It has been a lot of time spent but I've also had a lot of fun doing it.

My pleasure.  That is what we are here for.

Okay....I spent an hour doing some looking around.....and I was ready to give up...then i looked at dana andrews movie casts......at first i thought it was Liz somebody...then i found a lead.....i think it is Sig (Sigfried) Ruman .... character actor from the day relating to the others on the card......here is his autograph...i found only a few, but the G and the R , the running of the sig and the A at the end makes me think it is him...so many similarity and you can link him in movies withe the others....here is a pic of his signature.....if i close my eye to his S, i think it is him....Image result for sig ruman autograph

look at that R & A in his last name

if it's not him, make something up...

I have no life....4th of july and i am sitting here looking at old movie casts....but i love a great mystery.....

You my friend are amazing. I have truly enjoyed trying to figure out the 60-something signatures that I have but I'm starting to get a little frustrated with these last four or five. Haha. That's him, that is the guy. Our youngest son and his wife had their first kiddo today. So it's been a fantastic day and you just helped make it even better. Thank you so much. I got another one for you that's been driving me crazy. You figure this one out and I will order you a pizza and have it delivered or something. I'll post it right now. And again thank you man.

I pulled a double whammy and actually closed the discussion and was unable to put up the pictures for some reason. I just edited one that I had posted on June 15th so you might have to go back to find it. Sorry because I know it's on my end that the problem lies. and you're right, July 4th and I'm not even sure where my wife is at. she stayed with our son at the hospital. I figure she's either there or shopping. Haha. It's only funny if she doesn't have my credit card. I really appreciate your help because I don't think I would have ever found the one that you found earlier.

Trying to send you a blend that I did on the photo editor.

Scott.....

we are now talking about the two signatures under esther williams....correct....?

congrats on the new addition to the family....my son and dil brought home our first grandson today too.....

Yes, it is the two below Esther Williams. I came across the exact signature as the one directly below Esther Williams and it was listed as Paul Lukas. When I looked him up, the signatures weren't enough to convince me that it was him. The third signature just has blown my mind. I took it as far as even looking up how long people had been using X & O's for hugs and kisses because I couldn't come up with anything better at the time. I did learn something new and that was that the x's and o's go back a long time. If I'm remembering correctly,  the X's go back centuries. And finally, congratulations on the new addition to your family also. I remember my grandmother saying, Being grandparents we get to pick the Little Angels up on Friday and take the little devils home on Sundays.

Tim, that is some fantastic detective work.  Great job, and congratulations to both you and Scott on the new additions to the families.

I'm proud that both of you guys have spent the time that you have, trying to help me out and if there's anything I can do for either of you, I would do my best to make it happen. I am a total novice in this field but seem to have a lot of patience which seems to be required identifying some of these signatures. I have looked through thousands of signatures trying to identify the 60 that I have been fortunate enough to have gotten from my grandfather. I think he would have liked the idea of me trying to research his history back during that time. He didn't talk about his military service and the war and so  I went into it with no idea what to expect. I think it will be something that I will continue on with after these signatures have all been identified. I would like to stay in that time frame that I've studied so much on the past 6 months instead of the more modern entertainers. It was a different time, that's for sure.

None of us have lives!  Why else would we adore the past so much!  Thanks for the morning laugh.  I have a huge collection of Hollywood Canteen autographs and it is common for me to be in precisely this sort of quandary.  Always looking to buy, by the way!
