I think their highest commission rate is 20%. That means that they take 45% of the hammer price plus that ever-present $15 per lot fee. They want to take half of what the buyer spends?  Fuuhhhhrget that!

Their 25% buyer's fee is pretty standard...similar to all other auction houses and not an outlier. But their estimates, which appear to usually correspond to minimum bids or reserve prices, are very often too high. Many high quality items go unsold in their auctions.

I agree...it's a gorgeous signed LP in excellent condition...and, being associated with the time of their 1st Ed Sullivan appearance (or thereabouts), much more desirable than a 1963 signed PPM, at least for me.

I agree that the somewhat light "John Lennon" signed over the writing does make this one worth less than the others that have sold for more.  Since this same album sold for 47,000 in 2015 at auction why would anyone think it would sell for 100 grand (or higher) after just four years?  If it was such a "steal" at 75 grand someone would've bought it.  Don't get me wrong -- it's an amazing piece and something every collector would love to have but at a MUCH better price 4 years ago.

RR Auction received a 75K bid. It would have been over 93K with the juice, which is a strong price...but it didn't meet their minimum (reserve) price (which I presume was a hammer of 100K and a corresponding total of 125K with the buyer's premium). I don't think there's anything remotely wrong with this signed LP. It's gorgeous. The reserve was just too high.

Is it possible the market is simply over saturated with quality autographs these days. I can't help but feel RR have somewhat become a victim of their own success. They have multiple excellent pieces in each auction, which are almost every week/other week at the moment. Surely there's only some much collector $ to go around at one time?

So true...

The fact they don’t take credit cards has to affect them.

That is absolutely true!
