LAWRENCE OF ARABIA signed photo ---- THIS CRACKS ME UP!

Started this discussion. Last reply by David Lewis on Monday. 3 Replies

Some time ago I purchased online a ballpoint signed photo of Peter O' Toole in character as Lawrence. It took me years to find an authenticated vintage one of him in this role.  At the time I…Continue

Christopher Jones - Anyone know his signature?

Started this discussion. Last reply by Etienne Sep 18. 5 Replies

I realize that the name "Christopher Jones" does not necessarily ring any bells for a lot of folks.  He was a quite troubled young guy from Kentucky who had a very brief film career in the late 60's…Continue

Monday Greetings -  I'd be appreciative of any thoughts on this Elvis that is signed on an index card. It's apparently in fountain pen which hints at possibly being an earlier signature.…Continue

LAWRENCE OF ARABIA signed photo ---- THIS CRACKS ME UP!

Some time ago I purchased online a ballpoint signed photo of Peter O' Toole in character as Lawrence. It took me years to find an authenticated vintage one of him in this role.  At the time I purchased it, I downloaded my seller's supplied clean image that had been online to keep for my files.  Today I was looking at O' Toole signed photos on eBay and found the same scan of my signed photo listed as Peter O'Toole Autographed Signed 8x10 Photo Reprint.  The scan for the original that I own did…See More

"I think he's such an oddball autograph that it's hard to truly verify with exemplar comparisons.  I think you are right though about the source being important."

David Lewis replied to Etienne's discussion Christopher Jones - Anyone know his signature?
"Etienne, I have no idea how long Jones signed over his career. My thinking is  PSA has enough in their library to ok it. Secondly the Kuflik collection always seemed solid to me. I would start from there since there is a change in his…"

Etienne replied to Etienne's discussion Christopher Jones - Anyone know his signature?
"Thanks, David. Chris Jones is a difficult one.  He has a very small cult following.  I think it's partially due to the James Dean look, his sensual screen presence, the Sharon Tate connection and his abrupt retirement from films due…"

"Etienne, I would by the "Joe" if it is cheap. Also maybe the "Kuflik" if also cheap. At least the "Joe' has a third party that will go with any photo. I personally have no exemplars on…"

If selling - "Do you offer a COA ?"

Posted on July 21, 2021 at 3:30pm 17 Comments

Like many, I do some autograph selling on eBay. Today I had an inquiry about a signed document I have listed.  It's not a major piece....an agreement between Paramount Pictures and Joel McCrea to reference his name in a scene of an upcoming picture of theirs...a perfectly verifiable example of his signature.

The person interested wrote me asking a few questions about condition, if all of the pages of the legalize were included, where I had acquired it, etc..  Also: "Do…

How do you ultimately decide on authenticity with your collection?

Posted on June 5, 2021 at 3:48pm 7 Comments

Greetings!

I don't know if this has been covered explicitly as a blog topic...but  I thought I would roll it out and seek some thoughts and opinions.

What does it ultimately take for you to be comfortable with a particular autograph if you encounter divergent opinions on it?

I've been thinking on this a bit for some time. Quite awhile ago, I purchased a signed item from a person who had had it in their possession for about 20…

Typed Letter Signed (TLS) - Any Collectors?

Posted on April 10, 2021 at 5:17pm 3 Comments

I've recently become more and more attracted to letters from persons that I have an autographic interest in. I now have an Alfred Hitchcock typed letter from 1940 in which he discusses his budding American film career with an assistant director. It's simply signed "Hitch" in black fountain pen ink.

Some may not be interested in something like a TLS since there is not much "ink" on the page but I am fascinated by the content. I also have my eye on a TLS from John Ford from the same…

Alfred Hitchcock Self Profile Sketches

Posted on February 19, 2021 at 12:30pm 5 Comments

We were discussing on the IS THIS AUTOGRAPH REAL section an exemplar of a self caricature profile sketch and signature attributed to Alfred Hitchcock. TPAs Beckett and PSA gave a thumbs down to it on their quick opinion signature reviews while JSA had issued a full LOA for it earlier.

As I have looked around online, it seems there have been tons of these sketches that claim to be from Hitchcock's hand that have been bought and sold over the years. Examples of past sales from various…
