The Beatles -- Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band Autographed Album

I didn't post a picture, because, well...we all know what that beautiful gatefold looks like when it's opened up to show the Fab Four. But wait, it gets better! This signed album has all of The Beatles signing in the yellow section, not over their black hair. That means they're all very legible. They all signed by their respective heads (not that that matters), and best of all...John Lennon and Paul McCartney, the ones sitting closest to the middle section that folds, don't sign over that folded part!

And how can you acquire this fine piece? Well, Heritage Auctions is starting the bidding on this classic album from 1967 -- the Summer of Love -- was starting the bids at $15,000. They expected it to reach $30,000, which is odd, since signed Beatles albums (with the signature on the front cover, as opposed to the back, where they often signed on the records that have been deemed authentic)...they've sold for over $50,000. And Pepper's is the Beatles album that most would prefer among all the albums (I still regret not buying the White Album signed by Lennon and McCartney on the front cover, with huge signatures, for $2,500 at a Beatles convention).

Dallas-based Heritage said that bidding has already reached $110,500, and they're thinking now it could pass the $150,000 mark. The consignment director, Garry Shrum, has been quoted as saying that an autograph of such quality will probably never show up again and "people are responding to that...it's taken on a life of its own."

Now, can you Beatles experts go find the photo and tell me if you think they're real? They all look great to me. It's only the George Harrison that I wonder about.

Doesnt look to be any of these...seems on a few the Beatles are signing the their bodies, rather than on the yellow

Comment by Josh Board on March 26, 2013 at 12:21am: You know what's interesting about this hobby? We can see this, and think it might be the best set of Beatles autographs ever. It's a good point. It's the album people want it on...and instead of the cover where some signatures would be hard to see, it's on the yellow. It's not a black Sharpie, or later signatures, they're from that time. It's just perfect. Yet...the stuff you'll see come out over the years. I met this rich guy in La Jolla. He had no reason to lie, and he isn't into autographs. But his sister worked somewhere that dealt with the Beatles in the mid-60s. He gave her two albums to have them sign. They signed them, on the front, and he kept them in perfect condition. The only thing he regrets is that he didn't get different albums. They were both the same album! He had them framed, but eventually just put them in his closet. Another old guy I met in L.A., told me he used to do set designs/costumes in Hollywood. Somehow, he was working on the Beatles film Help. A few cast members brought albums for them to sign, which they did. He brought in a guitar, and they all signed it. He has it in a storage unit with a lot of props he kept from his days in the movies. Now...4 Beatles signatures on a guitar -- WOW!

As you probably know, many times Neil Aspinall wouldn't bother the guys and just signed the items himself...out of sight of the recipient. So there are quite a few people who actually had access to the Beatles, or who actually worked with them believe they have genuine Beatles-signed items from back in the day. But what they really have are Neil Aspinall-signed Beatles "signatures." That's a big reason why a COA from someone like Frank, who can tell the difference, means so much for Beatles items. I understand he sees these Neil Aspinall "signatures" fairly often. And, of course, this is another reason genuine Beatles autographs on LP's are both rare and valuable and another reason this Sgt. Pepper is going for so much money.
