Autographs on the Body Part II -- The Richard Petty Edition

Bubba Wallace had a 2nd place finish in the Daytona 500 in 2018. It was the best finish ever for an African-American driver. He posted a photo of an autograph he got of Richard Petty on Twitter, and said if it got 43,000 retweets, he’d get it tattooed on his body. Now, he’s going to get that “champ stamp” as some are calling it (a cute play on the expression “tramp stamp”, bout the tattoos women have right above their butts).

This all stems from a bet Wallace lost to his boss at Richard Petty Motorsports, after Petty scribbled his name on the driver’s left arm.

Petty made the #43 car famous during his Hall of Fame racing career, and Wallace now drives the same number. Which makes me think he should try talking his boss into letting him get a tattoo of the car instead.

He said he’s still trying to find a place on his body where the ink can be hidden. Someone suggested he just have it inked up where the signature was, but he said that although Petty has a beautiful signature, he doesn’t want to take up his whole forearm.

The 25-year-old racer also said that he meant 43,000 retweets in 24 hours (it only had 38,000), but he’s going to get the tatt anyway, along with one of his late grandmother. Unlike most 25-year-olds nowadays, he doesn’t have any tattoos.

Richard's autograph is a work of art.
