I really want to purchase this signed photo of Cary Grant, but I don't know if it's the real deal, or a secretarial, especially as it came through the mail. Opinions? Thanks!

That appears a period studio preprint. Especially without a dedication, and if 5x7. I can not determine live ink from this scan.

In looking for another example I see that seller on eBay, retro_girl82, who is making preprints on "vintage" paper has swiped a scan of a Grant from History Direct to make some "Cary Grant's". GRRR...

I agree with Eric. Preprint.

From what is presented that seems most likely - a huge, high DPI scan would be great to rule out live ink. If you had this in hand you could for other things but we are reliant on scans.

I just ran your image through tineye.com and found a several exact matches. Preprint.

There you have it. I started looking but was left feeling I need to go buy a suit or something ;)

I really appreciate it everyone! I had sent an offer but luckily I was able to retract it before they accepted it or not, I should have waited for your responses before jumping the gun. Thanks a million! :)

Well done! And very good job for asking. Score another for AML and a smart questioning collector! Perhaps 80% of the 1930's-1950's 5x7's are preprints of one sort or another.

Definitely a pre-print. Great photo though.
